Pre-purchase car inspection — Poznan and Swarzedz
Basic package300 złYou are buying a used car for tens of thousands of zloty, and the inspection costs a fraction of that — it usually pays for itself in the first conversation about price. What you get depends on the package, and we say so up front: Basic at 300 zł is paint measurement, a body inspection and a control-unit scan, without the lift; from Standard at 450 zł the car goes up on the lift and we take it for a test drive; Premium at 650 zł adds photos of the faults, an indicative repair estimate and arguments for the negotiation. We set the boundary up front too, because that is more honest than a promise we cannot keep: this is an assessment of the car's condition on the day of inspection, not a guarantee of reliability, not an expert appraiser's opinion and not a court expertise. The workshop is in Bogucin, Swarzędz municipality, right on the Poznan border.
We're launching this service soon. Leave your details and we'll let you know when it starts — and about the opening offer.
What the service includes
- Paint thickness measurement on the body panels that can be measured, with both sides of the car compared
- Body inspection for accident repairs — panel gaps, weld marks, bolts, chassis rails, glass markings
- Inspection on a lift (from the Standard package): underbody, corrosion, leaks, suspension, steering, brakes, exhaust and drivetrain
- Full computer scan of all accessible control units and a check of the basic live data
- Test drive (from the Standard package) — engine, gearbox, clutch, handling, braking and noises under load
- VIN verification against the documents presented, plus analysis of the vehicle history report that you supply — the cost of buying the report is charged separately
- Photo report and an indicative repair estimate, split into urgent work and what can wait (included in Premium, available as an add-on to the cheaper packages)
- A walk-through of the findings and the arguments you can use when discussing the price
What this inspection does not cover
- It is not a reliability guarantee — it is an assessment of the car on the day of inspection
- We do not strip down the engine, gearbox, battery or trim; the inspection is non-invasive
- We may not detect hidden defects or faults that only appear intermittently
- It is not an appraiser's opinion, a court expertise or a market valuation of the car
- We do not confirm the authenticity of documents or the seller's title to the vehicle
- It does not replace a roadworthiness test — we do no official brake force, damper or emissions measurements
- We do not measure wheel alignment or body reference points
- The fee is due regardless of the outcome and of whether you buy the car

Pricing rules
- Prices
- All prices are gross prices and cover the inspection to the extent described for the selected package or service.
- Nature of the inspection
- The vehicle check is an assessment of its condition on the day of inspection and is not a guarantee that the car will be free of faults after purchase.
- Hidden defects
- The inspection may fail to detect hidden defects, intermittent faults or damage located inside assemblies.
- No dismantling
- Standard packages do not include dismantling the engine, gearbox, battery, upholstery or any other assemblies.
- Additional dismantling
- Any additional dismantling or extended diagnostics requires the vehicle owner's consent and the customer's acceptance of the cost.
- Workshop opinion
- The workshop's summary is not a vehicle assessor's opinion, a forensic expert report or a valuation of the vehicle's market value.
- Documents
- We compare the data found on the vehicle with the documents presented, but we do not confirm their authenticity or the seller's title to the vehicle.
- VIN history
- The data in VIN reports may be incomplete. The absence of damage information in a database does not mean that the car has not been involved in a collision.
- Paint thickness measurement
- Paint readings may differ depending on the model, the material of the panel and the production technology. The measurement is one of the elements of the bodywork assessment.
- Cold engine
- A cold-start check is possible only if the seller does not start the car before we arrive or before the inspection.
- Road test
- We carry out a road test only with the owner's consent, with a valid roadworthiness test, valid third-party OC insurance and a condition that allows safe driving.
- Refusal of a road test
- We may refuse a road test if the vehicle is not roadworthy, has no documents, no number plates or no valid OC insurance, or if it poses a hazard.
- Inspection conditions
- If the seller does not allow the vehicle to be lifted, diagnostics to be carried out, a road test or a paint measurement, we record these limitations in the summary.
- Roadworthiness test
- A workshop inspection does not replace the roadworthiness test carried out by an authorised Vehicle Inspection Station.
- No wheel alignment
- Without the appropriate equipment we do not measure wheel alignment, body datum points or chassis frame alignment.
- No official test-station measurements
- We do not carry out official measurements of braking force, shock absorber efficiency or exhaust emissions.
- Estimate
- The repair estimate is indicative and may change after dismantling, after confirmation of the VIN and after checking parts prices and availability.
- Customer's decision
- The final decision to buy the car and to agree its price rests solely with the customer.
- Payment
- The fee for the inspection is due regardless of its outcome and regardless of whether the customer decides to buy the car.
- Seller's withdrawal
- If the seller interrupts the inspection or refuses further access to the vehicle, the customer pays for the work carried out up to that point.
- Customer data
- We hand the report and the photographs to the person who commissioned the inspection and do not disclose them to anyone else without the customer's consent.
- Hybrid vehicles
- A computer assessment of the hybrid battery does not replace a capacity test of the individual modules after the battery has been removed.
- Prices
- All prices are gross prices and cover labour.
- Customer-supplied parts
- Where parts are supplied by the customer, the workshop is responsible for correct fitting but is not responsible for the quality or durability of those parts.
- Customer-supplied parts
- With customer-supplied parts the workshop is responsible for correct fitting, but not for the quality, fit or durability of those parts.
Frequently asked questions
Which package should I choose — Basic, Standard or Premium?
Basic at 300 zł filters out the obvious disasters: documents, paint measurement, body inspection, engine bay, tyres and a computer scan — with no lift and no test drive. Standard at 450 zł adds what you cannot see from above: the lift, underbody, corrosion, leaks, brakes, suspension, gearbox and a test drive — and it is the sensible default. Premium at 650 zł adds a photo report, an indicative repair estimate and a discussion of negotiating arguments, which is the part that most often pays for itself in the purchase price. There are also variants for hybrids, ex-taxi cars, nearly new cars and cheap runabouts — the full list is in the price list below. SUVs and 4x4s, vans and luxury or sports cars carry a surcharge from the price list — we mention it when you book, not when you collect the car.
How long does a pre-purchase inspection take, and do I need to book ahead?
Basic takes roughly one to one and a half hours, Standard one and a half to two and a half hours, Premium two and a half to four hours. Booking ahead is essential: we have to reserve a lift bay and the diagnostic tester, and you have to line the slot up with the seller. Call 500 272 005 and we will agree a time and tell you what to bring. A same-day inspection is possible for a surcharge if a bay is free.
Will you come to the car if the seller will not bring it to you?
Yes. A callout to the car within 20 km of the workshop is 200 zł; beyond that we charge a per-kilometre rate with a minimum fee — the exact terms are in the price list below. But let us be straight with you: the most thorough inspection is only possible in the workshop. At the seller's there is no lift, so a proper assessment of the underbody, corrosion and leaks is off the table, and we note the limited scope in the summary.
What exactly do I get at the end — a report, photos, an estimate?
It depends on the package. Basic ends with a verbal summary of the car's condition and the biggest risks. Standard ends with a list of the faults found plus a summary of the mechanical, bodywork and electronic condition. Premium gives you a written summary, photos of the faults, an indicative repair estimate and an opinion on whether the purchase makes economic sense. The photo report and the estimate can also be bought separately alongside a cheaper package. The estimate is indicative — figures can change once parts are removed and prices and availability are confirmed. The report and photos go only to the person who commissioned the inspection.
Will your inspection find every fault?
No, and nobody honest will promise that. An inspection may not reveal hidden defects, intermittent faults or damage inside an assembly — the standard packages do not include stripping down the engine, gearbox, battery or trim. We check everything that can be assessed without disassembly, on the lift and with the tester, and we record every warning sign. If we conclude along the way that additional disassembly or extended diagnostics is needed, we ask the owner's permission and your approval of the cost before we do anything.
Is this an expert appraiser's opinion? Can I use it in court or with an insurer?
No. Our summary is a workshop opinion, not an automotive appraiser's report, a court expertise or a market valuation. For court proceedings, an insurance dispute or a valuation you need a certified appraiser — that is a different service and a different document. Our report has a different purpose: to show the technical condition before you buy, and to give you concrete arguments in the conversation with the seller.
Do you confirm that the documents and the mileage are genuine?
We compare the data on the car with the data in the documents presented — but we do not confirm the authenticity of documents or the seller's title to the vehicle. History and mileage we read from the VIN report, which you buy and bring: we analyse it (that is part of the Premium package) and the cost of buying the report itself is charged separately. Report data can be incomplete, so the absence of a recorded claim does not mean the car was never in a collision. That is why we assess the body by measuring the paint and inspecting it, not by the report alone.
What if the seller will not let you lift the car or take a test drive?
We record that in the summary as a limitation of the inspection — and that fact is itself information for you. We only test drive with the owner's consent, with a valid roadworthiness certificate, valid third-party insurance and a car in a state fit to drive safely; we can refuse if the car is unroadworthy, has no plates or poses a risk. If the seller cuts the inspection short or refuses further access, we only bill the work carried out up to that point.
Do I still pay if the car turns out to be a wreck and I walk away?
Yes. The fee is due regardless of the outcome of the inspection and regardless of whether you decide to buy — you are paying for time, equipment and knowledge, not for a positive verdict. It is worth flipping that round: an inspection that talks you out of a purchase is the cheapest one you will ever buy. The final decision on the purchase and the price is always yours; we supply facts, we do not push you either way.
Will you check a hybrid and its traction battery?
Yes — there is a dedicated package with extended hybrid diagnostics: block voltages, the differences between them, temperatures, the inverter and battery cooling, including during the test drive. One caveat matters: a computer assessment of a hybrid battery does not replace a capacity test of the individual modules once the battery has been removed. We see irregularities and differences between blocks, but that is not a way to measure real capacity. There is more about what can be checked on a hybrid on our hybrid service page.
